Why don’t psychics win the lottery?

Monday, August 4th, 2008

By far one of the most common questions from people who are skeptical about the existence of psychic powers is the simple question: why don’t more psychics use their powers to win the lottery?

After all, money is always a good motivator, isn’t it? Fair enough…let’s consider the lottery as a fair test of psychic skills.

The odds of winning the lottery are dependant on a lot of things, but what people are most after is the jackpot. I used this tool to determine that the chance of winning my state lottery’s jackpot was 1 in 8,259,888 (65 balls, you have to choose 5 correct for the jackpot). Now, for a normal person who picks just regular everyday numbers, this is a very low chance.

However, lets say for the sake of argument, that you’re a psychic who knows that two particular numbers are going to come up in tonight’s lottery. So calculating those odds, you now have 63 balls, and you need to pick three correctly. The odds for that are 1 in 39,700. Still not very good, and you already knew 2/5ths of the numbers that were going to come up!

Maybe you’ve got a really strong intuition that you know about 3 of the numbers which would appear in tonight’s lottery. In this case, there is a one in 1,891 chance that you’ll win. It’s still not very good, but it might be worth playing.

But all in all, is there still a good, solid chance, that even knowing 3 of the numbers that will come up in the lottery that you’ll win? Not really.

And we’ve assumed that the psychic is correct in their prediction. We’re all human aren’t we?

What people don’t understand about psychic powers is that there is rarely a solid, 100% answer to any question. You get impressions, you feel certain about some things, but you can never be 100% certain about something until it happens. Yes, I would venture to say that you should never bet the bankroll on your predictions, even that super-strong prediction you had just the other day.

It’s always healthy to have a little skepticism, even when we’re promoting the idea that psychic powers exist within everyone.

The advantage to developing psychic powers is to get a solid base of intuition. Learn to trust yourself, and in particular, learn to trust your emotions about things which you shouldn’t have a right to know.

Yes, I do believe that you can receive messages from “out there” and that communicating with spirits and using your connections to your soul energy can provide you some answers to life’s toughest questions. Learning to trust and interpret these signs is an incredible ability which we can all develop.

But going back to the main question, is it fair to use a randomized system like the lottery as a way to test psychic skills? No. Even if you are able to correctly predict 60% of the numbers, you will still have almost no chance of doing well on a psychic skills test like this.

How do Psychic Tests Work?

Thursday, July 31st, 2008

Psychic tests are short examinations you can perform, either on your own, or with the help of a friend. These psychic tests are a good way to evaluate your abilities and determine if you are progressing well through your psychic training. Going through one or more psychic tests is a good idea once or twice, if only to remind you about the limits to your powers.

Chances are, you will have significant difficulty with these tests, particularly if you do not limit the number of possible choices. No matter how gifted you are, if your friend asks “What am I thinking about right now?” you have almost no chance to correctly identify an object, situation, or person from that. Even an experienced psychic would probably be completely unable to tell you the answer.

99% of psychics cannot turn on their abilities “on command”. Most of them receive psychic signals naturally and effortlessly, as if from thin air. Very few are able to point their conscious in a particular direction and figure out what is happening, even if the situation is extremely important to them. It simply does not work that way.

This is, of course, the major problem with psychic tests. They don’t really put you in the right set of circumstances to prove anything about the depth of your training or your own abilities, since they don’t put you in a normal situation you can deal with. Overall, it is this psychic’s belief that psychic tests are a tremendous waste of time, money, and effort, and are not worth pursuing.

Do psychic tests actually prove anything?

How to Test Psychic Ability

Thursday, July 10th, 2008

Unfortunately, it is very difficult for you to test psychic ability. While there are a litany of sites online which will allow you to try proving your ability by picking between different cards or images, these psychic tests are not accurate, and should pretty much be used only for amusement, and not for your own development.

Why? Most of these games are completely made up! There is no way for you to test psychic ability with them because there are no real cards to see, feel, and get signals from. Almost every psychic in the world requires some kind of physical object so that they can read into it, and very people work “on command”, able to pull their psychic abilities out of a hat at the drop of a dime.

If you really want to test psychic ability, do it in a real life situation. When your phone rings, see if you can get an idea of who is calling you before you answer. Check your guess when you pick up. You could also attempt to discern things like what color they are wearing, what song they just listened to, or where they are when they are calling, and test psychic ability with their answers.

If you do readings, call and follow up with your client, and ask them how close their reading was to what actually happened. This is a fantastic way to get feedback, and a good way to test psychic ability. As you progress through your training, you should notice a strong positive trend among your results. Do not be discouraged by poor results, especially early on, when it is difficult to interpret your results correctly.

Psychic Power Tests

Sunday, June 29th, 2008

Most psychic power tests are powerless to achieve measurable results.  That is not to say that these abilities are not proven, though.  The fact of the matter is that ordinary instruments are not capable of measuring extraordinary things.  Instead, psychic power tests can be used to guage the potential of a particular practitioner.  For instance, a person can exhibit psycho-kinetic talents, and the results of psychic power tests will determine how effectively that person use them, but cannot prove that the talent is a scientifically proven skill.

The purpose of most psychic power tests, therefore, is to establish in which areas are person’s skills are most active.  Some people are more adept at mind-reading, while others display more inclination at future seeing, or divination.  Everyone has mental abilities in one or more realms, ranging from clairvoyance to telekinesis, and psychic power tests are used to determine which area is best suited for each person’s abilities.

As an example, I am unable to move objects with my mind, but have a medium amount of telepathic ability.  On certain days, my ability to look into someone’s mind is uncannily apparent, but other days it is reduced to being only slightly effective.  A lot factors combine to increase extrasensory perception, including my diet, health, and mental attitude.  Location is a factor as well, since it is far easier to pick up the thoughts of a nearby person when there are only the two of us, than it is distinguish one person’s thought from among a group of people, or in a noisy environment.  This holds true for most physical accomplishments also, such as writing an article or playing the piano.

For this reason, carefully choose the time and surroundings used for undergoing psychic power tests.  If you are distracted, you will not rate well.  If you are calm and your mind is focused, you will perform much better.  A person who is able to see distant places may not do as well with future divination, but that will vary from individual to individual, because it is very likely that they may have strengths in more than one field.  We all have unique talents, just as everyone one of us has a different set of fingerprints.  In many ways, psychic power tests can be compared to fingerprints, as these experiments help us to understand our own specific mental abilities.
